$150 Million Westin Project Appears to be Dead

Blog by | December 17th, 2007

Deposits have been returned to pre-buy investors in the Kelowna Westin project leading people to speculate that the project is dead. However, Saje Enterprises developer Stanley Yasin, who is in charge of the project, says that it is still in the works. Yasin says the project has stalled but is not dead.

Despite what Yasin says, the fact remains that the development permit for the site has lapsed. Without an up-to-date permit the project will have to go back through the approval process to be able to continue with construction, despite the fact that the pre-load remains on site.

Doug Gilchrist, community develpment and real estate manager for the city, said that the property must be used for construction of a hotel as the city has a covenant on the property.

It is not the first time that site has not gotten off the ground. In years past the Sheraton hotel also came close to begin built, but didn't come to fruition.
