Whistler to Issue $1,000-per-day Fines for Airbnb Type Rentals
As of July 31, 2017 - Whistler property owners will need a $165 license in order to offer short-term rentals (i.e. Airbnb type rentals). If you are advertising on sites such as Airbnb in Whistler you will be required to obtain a business license. But there is a catch - you cannot obtain a business license unless you have the proper zoning for nightly rentals. It is my understanding that the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) plans on monitoring online ads and if people are marketing their properties as available for nightly or short term rentals and they do not have a business license they will be issued a ticket with a fine of $1,000 per day.
