Site C Hydro Dam Project Given a Green Light to Proceed
The project is expected to be completed by November 2024. The province stated the reason Site C was approved was to minimize the impact on rate payers and to preserve money for future capital projects. The province stated that if the project was cancelled, rates would be much higher for the next decade, with an increase of 12% starting in 2020.
Site C is the largest construction project in B.C. history. It would flood about 5,500 hectares of land along the Peace River in Northeast B.C., creating an 83-kilometre-long reservoir and providing enough power for up to 450,000 homes a year.
