New Building Bylaws in Vancouver
If you are planning to build a house in Vancouver this year, get your permits in place before June 30 because the City of Vancouver Building Bylaw has been extended to July 1. It was supposed to come into effect in March, but lobbying by the home builders and building product manufacturers forced the city to extend the deadline.
"The Bylaw will add from $7,000 to $10,000 to every new house," estimates Bob DeWitt, executive vice-president of the Greater Vancouver Home Builders' Association.
The Bylaw bans
doorknobs, requires electrical car plug-ins and ushers in some of
the toughest energy requirements in Canada.
