The average income in Lloydminster is $110,000 per year and many of the young roughnecks and truck drivers are making more than $10,000 a month.
Because it is right on the border, the city is exempt from provincial sales taxes and there are no rent controls on the Alberta side of the border, where 65% of residents live.
There is no business tax.
The unemployment rate is around 4%, low even by Prairie standards.
In the past 10 years, the population has grown by a startling 32.5% to nearly 28,000. In the past three years, the city has seen a 75% increase in building permits, the highest in Alberta.
