ARTrageous , Whistler’s official art party, is on the horizon. Featuring a selection of Whistler’s finest emerging and established artists and photographers, the night will celebrate Whistler’s vibrant arts and culture. Presented in partnership with Cornucopia 2006, ARTrageous will provide an opportunity for local artists from the Sea-to-Sky Corridor to feature and sell their work in an evening celebrating the arts on Thursday, Nov. 9 at Dusty’s in Creekside.
Live glass blowing with Duane Perrett, live painting with Chili Thom and Stan Matwychuk, dancers, and artist and artisan displays will satisfy your visual taste, while DJ Vinyl Ritchie and Five Alarm Funk, the 12-piece Afro-Funk Juggernaut, will keep you dancing all night. You can also experience A Portrait Experiment with Dean Cote who will be taking on-the-spot portraits in his private studio. Live music, roaming performers and interactive creations will appeal to all, and local restaurants will be providing finger foods, while Cornucopia’s influence means the wine will be flowing.
Featured artists include Debra MacArthur, Theresa Mura, Dave Petko, Lynn Pocklington, Daniel Poisson, Erin Sieber, Andrew Smith, Josee St. Amour, Vanessa Stark, Oliver Roy, Corinna Haight, Lindsay McLennan, Wim Tewinkel and Stan Matwychuk. Local photographers include Mark Richards, Greg Eymundson, Bruce Rowles, Blake Jorgenson and Creagh Hawthorne. Artisans on hand include Caroline Miller, Kate Power and Mike Tyler. Bring your credit card as on-site sales of art, jewellery, glass, pottery and sculpture will be available.
Leave your car at home! The Arty Farty Bus will be taking guests from the Village taxi loop, beside Moguls Coffee shop, starting at 9 p.m. and will be doing rounds until 2 a.m. Don’t drive – start the party on The Arty Farty Bus!
